My home network consists of the following:
- SMC Barricade Router with 8 switched LAN ports and one WAN port.
- The router acts as a DHCP server for guest computers.
- Wireless access is via a LinkSys WAP11 and an Apple Airport Extreme.
- Gigabit Ethernet is via n SMC 5-port switch .
- DNS service is provided by a Macintosh BeigeG3 running Mac OS X Panter server.
- Next on my Do List is to get everything to work with IPv6.
Simulation
- In years past I used the Comdisco BONeS discrete event simulator.
- Today I use OpNet's IT Guru, student edition to stay sharp.
- OMNeT++ is also on my list of free simulators to gain expertise with.
- To validate a simulation I use simple spreadsheets and queueing theory.
- See my book "Practical Planning for Network Growth".
